About Metairie Foreclosure
Metairie is a suburb of New Orleans. Although the population is 146,136 (census 2000), Metairie is not legally a city, because it is a legal area, and thus shaped by the census designated place. Metairie is the largest community in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, and it is higher than in most towns and cities across the country.
Namesake
The original spelling, Metairie is a French term is a tenant farm which paid the landlord with a share of production (sharecropping), as it was the main business area, 19 at the beginning of the century.
Sports and recreation
Metairie New Orleans lives in Zephyr baseball team. Too has played a smaller club of its home games at Zephyr field since 1997 and is a member of the Pacific Coast League.

History
Metairie was first settled by the French 18th the end of the century, along the area known as Metairie Ridge, a natural Oak BAYOU used. This became "Metairie Road." Electric streetcar was installed running along Metairie Road in late 1910s, opening up an area of major developments. Upscale housing tracts built in the road in 1920, this region is now known as "Old Metairie." It is today the most prestigious area of Metairie. Most of the rest of Metairie was not developed until after World War II. Much of this growth was the result of white flight of white New Orleans residents left New Orleans during the civil rights movement in 1960, and after the integration of schools in New Orleans.
"Veterans Boulevard" was provided with a drainage canal, and became a commercial center of the region. The Central Business District of Metairie is located in Causeway Blvd near Lake Ponchartrain. Metairie also has one of the handful of major malls located in the New Orleans metro area. Lakeside Shopping Center is the highest grossing mall in New Orleans metropolitan area. If the 1970s and early 1980s an area of bars and nightclubs opening part of Metairie, which is known as "Fat City". Metairie is a great Mardi Gras season that touts itself more family-friendly version of the New Orleans Mardi Gras.
Fort Lauderdale Hurricane
The 1947 Fort Lauderdale Hurricane with winds around 125 mph (195 km / h) directly hit Metairie. A large part of the water was six feet.
Hurricane Betsy
Hurricane Betsy is a third category of the storm, hit the area in 1965, causing extensive wind damage and moderate flooding.
The flood risk in 1995
The 8th May 1995 flooding in Louisiana, which dumped up to twenty inches of rain Metairie has taken twelve hours, flooded some parts of the region, particularly in areas south and west of Metairie, including Kenner, Harahan and River Ridge.
Hurricane Katrina
August 29, 2005, Metairie was hit hard by the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, including widespread wind damage and flooding. Were 29 reported deaths related to Katrina in Metairie. According to satellite images and flood risk maps, up to 75% of Metairie flooded. Metairie is insured for damages to the initial 3 to 5 billion U.S. dollars. The death toll and the damage was less than in adjacent Orleans Parish, Metairie, mainly because of the Metairie side of the 17th Canal Street is not violated.
Residents were given a mandatory evacuation for August 28, 2005, the first time have never been ordered. Residents were not allowed to return until September 4th However, residents were only allowed to visit soon 7-6 to the home or business. Residents were not allowed to return after that to 15 September 2005. This period has been over two weeks in exile in Angered, many residents, especially those whose homes flooded because they were not able to empty the house of water, which led to the injury worse.
Metairie were used in a staging area to evacuate people from New Orleans. The most organized effort took place on the Causeway between the I-10. There, evacuees were gathered, and wandered to wait for the bus.
The flooding in Metairie had three causes:
* Lake Ponchartrain backflow into canals: Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard evacuated all pumping companies post their spots more than a hundred miles away in Washington Parish in anticipation of the hurricane. Typically, machines have not only prevents the lake from flowing into the drainage channels, but also pumping out the rain waters. This largely resulted in severe flooding of Metairie in most areas north of Interstate 10th
* Rain waters: Since almost all of Metairie is between two and seven feet below sea level, all the rainwater is caught in the Metairie "bowl." Can not return for nearly two days, participants in the pump can not turn on the pumps to pump rain water, or no backflow.
* 17 Street Canal breach of: there was no breach of the Metairie side of the channel, however, crept into the water through the Airline Highway, Metairie. The narrow high ground of Metairie Road and some elevated railroad tracks partially contained in the area of water. The water caused flooding in the southern most part of Old Metairie.
Many Metairie residents are joining a class action lawsuit against Aaron Broussard for his removal of pump operators. Other residents have tried to recall and remove Broussard as Parish President, which they see as negligence, but did not receive support and the necessary signatures.
Geography
Metairie is located in East Jefferson Parish and its boundaries include New Orleans to Kenner, east, west, Lake Pontchartrain to the north and south to Airline Highway. The South Airline Highway from Metairie are River Ridge, Harahan, Elmwood, and Jefferson.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP is the surface area of 60.2 km (23.3 miles). 60.1 km (23.2 MI) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.1 mi) to the (0.22%) is water.
Transportation
The most common method of transport of Metairie is the automobile. Mass Transit offers "Jet" (Jefferson Transit), but it's not on Sundays, holidays or late at night, unlike many strains of New Orleans' RTA.
Interstate 10 is an east-west through the Metairie.
Major east-west route (from north to south) include West Esplanade Avenue, Veterans Memorial Boulevard, West Napoleon Avenue, West Metairie Avenue, Metairie Road, Airline Drive (which is part of U.S. Highway 61) and Jefferson Highway (which is part of U.S. Highway 90 ). The Earhart Expressway, running east-west immediately south of Airline Drive, is the only freeway entering New Orleans from the west, but it ends when the Expressway shortly after the parish boundary line, and before downtown (in Central City.)
Multi-line, a continuous north-south roads (from west to east) include David Drive / Hickory Avenue, Power Boulevard, Transcontinental Drive, a clear picture of Parkway, Causeway Boulevard and Bonnabel Boulevard.
