About Irish Channel Foreclosure



The Irish Channel is a neighborhood located in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Is located near the Mississippi River near Jackson Avenue in front of around uptown New Orleans. The neighborhood designated a city official in New Orleans Planning Commission shall determine the limits of the neighborhood that the river Magazine Street, from 1 Toledano Street to street, but other folk and the neighborhood has long been used in the definitions and the precise boundaries are often some of the local debate on the issue.

Mostly working class neighborhood was, as their name, which was originally settled largely of immigrants from Ireland's 19th at the beginning of the century. But early in the area of the people of other nationalities were also, including Germany, Italy and the African American, living nearby each other.

On 20 the beginning of the century a large proportion of the population worked in the port of New Orleans before the innovations of modern shipping substantially reduce the need for stevedores and the like jobs. There were also local breweries in the region.

Since approximately 1960, the majority African American neighborhood, with substantial minorities are descendants of the 19th century, immigrants and more recent Latino immigrants. Parades and parties held in and around St. Patrick's Day, which has many of the local, whether they have Irish ancestry or not.

The region is known for surviving a lot of working class and middle-class 19th century residential architecture, including a number of shotgun houses. Nearby included St. Thomas Development.

Built in the old urban neighborhood of high-land was one of the few to escape from the catastrophic floods in most of the city after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
